Weights for 2004 Martell Cognac Grand
National
Aintree, Saturday 3 April.
First Gold, the Francois Doumen-trained horse
owned by Irish tycoon JP McManus, has been handed top
weight of 11st 12lb, for the Martell Cognac Grand National
2004 at Aintree in April. With Rince Ri, Harbour
Pilot and Fondmort being rated 2lb lower,
and the 2003 winner Monty's Pass getting a big
weight of 11st 7lb.
No horse allocated a weight of 11st or more has won
the race since Rhyme 'n Reason in 1988. Of 122 entries,
66 horses are on 10st or above in the weights published
on Tuesday for the 2004 race. This number is one below
last year's modern day record of 67. A maximum field
of 40 will line up on Saturday 3 April.
